The Cape golf region sweeps the southern coastal strip from Cape Town
near the southern-most tip of Africa to beyond the great Fish River
near East London.
When to
play
The peak golf season is the summer months of December to April,
but as you will discover, the winter months have special qualities of
their own.
The
Climate
The entire Southern Cape shares a similar climate. It is well watered
by intermittent westerly winter rainfall that blows in from the South
Atlantic.
The weather patterns that affect Cape Town are usually felt in Plettenberg
Bay within a day.
Severe weather conditions are scarcely known along the coastal belt
because of the ocean's influence.
Late September and into October and November the weather improves,
the air is warmer and after the winter rain the courses come alive.
December, January and through to mid February the days are hot and
clear. But this is the time of the southeaster, a wind that dies down
after sunset, slowly comes alive again in the mid morning and reaches
ferocious velocity in the afternoon.
Optimum
conditions
By the end of February through March and April the most perfect
golfing circumstances come into play. The heat of the summer gives way
to the most beautiful weather conditions that never cease to amaze the
most hardened local weather watchers. Days are warm, sunny and wind
free and the mass of tourists have gone back to work, leaving the courses
to those fortunate enough to have life's most precious commodity - time.
